Listing data
VOW (Virtual Office Website)
Also called: Virtual Office Website
A VOW, or Virtual Office Website, is an arrangement that lets a brokerage show a broader set of MLS data, typically including sold prices and listing history, to registered users who have agreed to a broker-client relationship. It differs from IDX in requiring registration and a stated relationship, which is what permits the additional data.
The registration requirement is the defining feature. VOW data cannot be shown openly to anonymous visitors the way IDX listings can, so it sits behind a sign-in.
That gate has a side effect worth planning for: content behind it is not crawlable, so it contributes nothing to search or AI visibility. The value of VOW data is in what it does for a registered user, not in what it does for ranking.
For lead capture it is one of the few genuinely fair exchanges. Sold prices are information a serious buyer or seller actually wants and cannot easily get elsewhere, which makes the registration request reasonable rather than obstructive.
Why it matters
Sold data is the strongest reason a serious buyer or seller will register on an agent's site rather than staying anonymous on a portal.
