Google Business Profile
Also called: GBP, Google My Business
A Google Business Profile is the free listing a business manages that supplies its details to Google Search and Maps, including name, category, service area, hours, photos, and reviews. It was formerly called Google My Business. For a real estate agent it is often the most complete structured record of the business that exists anywhere, which makes it a primary source for both local results and AI answers.
It matters disproportionately because it is structured and verified. Free text on a website has to be interpreted; a profile field states a category and a service area unambiguously, and a verified profile carries more weight than an unverified claim.
Reviews attach here, and they are read as well as counted. Reviews naming a neighbourhood, a property type, or a situation give both Google and an AI assistant specific language connecting the agent to that context.
Agents commonly leave it half-finished: no service area, a generic category, no photos, and no posts. Completing it costs an hour and affects a record that many systems treat as authoritative.
Why it matters
It is frequently the single record an AI assistant reads when deciding whether an agent covers a given area.
