Local Pack
Also called: Map pack, 3-pack
The local pack is the block of business listings shown with a map on searches that have local intent, usually displaying three businesses with their ratings, and a link to more. Entries come from Google Business Profiles rather than from website pages, so appearing there depends on the profile and its signals rather than on ordinary page ranking.
Google describes local ranking as resting on relevance, distance, and prominence. Distance is measured from the searcher, which is why results differ between two people running the same search in different parts of a city, and why a single check from one location tells an incomplete story.
Prominence draws on how well known a business is, including reviews and mentions across the web. This is where a complete profile, a steady flow of reviews, and consistent details elsewhere compound.
For agents, the local pack is one of the few surfaces where a solo agent can appear beside a national portal, because portals do not have a local business profile for every neighbourhood.
Why it matters
The local pack sits above ordinary results on searches with local intent, and it is filled from business profiles rather than websites.
