NAP Consistency
Also called: Name, Address, Phone
NAP consistency means a business's name, address, and phone number appear in exactly the same form everywhere they are published. Search engines use agreement between independent listings to confirm a business's details, so variations, an abbreviated street name here, an old phone number there, weaken confidence and can hold back local rankings and AI recommendations.
Agents accumulate inconsistency naturally. Brokerage changes, team name changes, a direct line replacing an office line, and a personal profile created years ago all leave records behind, and old listings rarely get updated when something changes.
The audit is manual but finite: search the business name and phone number, list every place the details appear, and record which are wrong. Correct the sources with the most weight first, which are usually Google Business Profile, the brokerage's own site, and the board directory.
Exactness matters more than it seems it should. Machines comparing strings do not know that Street and St. are the same word, so consistency needs to be literal.
Why it matters
Contradictory contact details across the web give AI assistants a reason to name a different agent instead.
